The All-on-4 dental implants technique was developed by Portuguese dentist Dr. Palo Malo, and trademarked by Nobel Biocare. This technique was designed as an alternative to bone grafting for patients with low jawbone density. New Orleans cosmetic dentist Dr. Duane Delaune provides All-on-4 dental implants, sometimes referred to as the profile denture.
The procedure requires the surgical implantation of four highly-angled dental implants in the anterior of the jawbone, which has more bone density. The implants are angled to give stable support for a complete denture. The part of the implants that are exposed above the jawbone, point upward and are parallel. When the dentures are screwed on, the attachment is normal, stable, and secure.
All-on-4 Advantages and Disadvantages
Because no bone grafting is required, this technique is faster and less expensive than implants that require bone grafting. In some cases, the entire procedure can be completed in one day. One disadvantage is that if one implant fails, all implants must be re-done. Another disadvantage is that with no implants in the posterior of your jawbone, bone shrinkage in that area will occur.
This technique is not for all patients and requires special training and experience. Dr. Delaune has the special training and experience required for All-on-4 implants. He also has post-graduate training in implantology from the Zimmer Institute and Russo Seminars. He will help you decide if this technique is right for you.
