Botox party vs doctor or dentist administered

I am only 37 yrs old but I have deep wrinkles in my forehead and around my mouth when I smile. When I see pictures of myself, I think I look at least 42 yrs old. I was invited to a Botox party, which I declined because I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it at the time. What’s the difference between getting it done at a party, or at a doctor’s or dentist’s office? Milan – There are several risks involved if you choose to have your facial lines removed at a Botox party, or pumping party, as it is commonly called. Do you know who is administering the injections? There are reports of Botox parties-gone-bad because the person administering the injections was poorly qualified or not qualified at all to administer them.

How can you be certain what is being injected? There are also reports of high-volume injections of low-grade silicon, or other substances that are not Botox. Serious health issues and even death can occur. Often potential side effects and risks are not reviewed with clients before injections are given.

When you receive Botox injections from an authorized provider—such as a doctor’s or dentist’s office—you will receive information on the procedure, possible side effects, and what you can expect from the injections—prior to receiving them.

At a dentist’s or doctor’s office, your injections will be administered in sterile conditions. And they will be administered by a trained professional with whom you can follow-up if you have any questions or concerns.

There are many competent doctors who are qualified to administer Botox. We strongly recommend that you find one. The extra cost is worth it.

Thomas – The best way to tell if you have gum disease is to see your dentist. Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums to make the determination.

Symptoms of gum disease

  • Gums that bleed when you floss or brush your teeth
  • Inflamed or sore gums
  • Gums that are receding, or pulling away from the teeth
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Pus between the teeth and gums
  • Loose teeth
  • A change in your bite—the way your teeth fit together
  • An increase in the space between your teeth
  • A partial denture that no longer fits correctly

Inadequate brushing and flossing your teeth, genetics, certain illnesses, and certain medications can make you more susceptible to gum disease. Regular brushing and flossing, as well as regular exams by your dentist and dental cleanings can help prevent gum disease.

If you think you have gum disease, make an appointment with your dentist. Early detection makes it easier to control the gum disease and save your teeth. Teeth that are lost due to gum disease can be replaced with a dental bridge or dental implants.

How can I get rid of facial wrinkles without Botox?

I am 44 years old, but I look more like 52. I know I look older because I asked a few random people at work how old they think I am. All of them gave an age over 50. Juvederm® is an alternative. This dermal filler contains hyaluronic acid. This acid is a natural moisturizing agent that is in body tissue. Hyaluronic acid decreases as we age, and Juvederm replaces it and adds moisture back into your face.

The treatment usually lasts about 15 minutes. The most common side effects after treatment are some redness or bruising, which will diminish in about a week. Your provider will discuss other possible side effects with you. The results will last eight months to a year. After that time, if you want to maintain the results, the treatment needs to be repeated.

Best way to fix two loosened teeth

I was involved in a domestic dispute over the weekend, the day after THanksgiving, and a blow to my mouth caused my front two teeth to loosen. I don’t want to be taken advantage of with dental work that I don’t need. I will be making an appointment this week, but will you please tell me what is the proper treatment for my teeth? Vanessa

Vanessa – We are very sorry to hear about your incident and the damage that it did to your teeth.

If the roots of your teeth are not fractured, a dentist needs to bond your teeth into the correct position so the bone will heal. Your teeth should be fine after that. You will need a follow-up appointment with the dentist to ensure there is no nerve damage to your teeth.

A root canal treatment will be needed if you do have nerve damage. If the root canal treatment is needed, the dentist will ensure that crown of the tooth is free of cement. This prevents the tooth from darkening with time. If your tooth was in good condition prior to the damage, it’s unlikely that you need a porcelain crown, which will likely weaken the tooth.

TMJ issues and bad crowns

Hi. About eight years ago, I had crowns placed on all of my teeth because I grind them terribly. Well, now I’ve worn down the crowns. My jaw hurts and clicks and it’s crooked. The ugly crowns have messed up my gums. I’m not sure that I gained anything with them. – Vickie, Kenner, LA

I was able to find a neuromuscular dentist that recommended an orthotic. The orthotic has made my bite worse, so the crowns are worn out. You can find a dentist with expertise in placing porcelain crowns and who practices the part of cosmetic dentistry. He or she should also have experience in treating the TMJ disorder.

Carefully review the website of a cosmetic dentist. Does the website indicate that he or she places crowns? Do the smile gallery show pictures of natural-looking crowns? Should I get my teeth bleached before I get a porcelain crown?

I’ve been planning to have my teeth bleached this fall, but I had an accident that broke more than half of one of my front teeth. Now I need a porcelain crown. Does it matter which I have done first—the crown or the teeth bleaching? – Donna P. from River Ridge

Donna – Yes, it does make a difference which treatment you have done first. If you want whiter teeth, they should be bleached first.Then, the porcelain crown will be matched to your whiter teeth. If you get the crown first, when your teeth are bleached, they will be whiter than the crown.The crown will be noticeable—not natural looking—and you’ll likely want a new crown.

You need a waiting period between your teeth whitening and the placement of the crown. When your teeth are bleached, the color will stabilize in about two weeks. So wait for the entire two weeks to pass before attempting to match the porcelain crown to your bleached teeth.

You’ll save time and money if you have your teeth bleached first, wait two weeks for the color to stabilize, and then receive a porcelain crown.
